From the Farm this Week
Vegetables: Arugula, cabbage, cucumbers, eggplant, peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, squash, rattlesnake beans
Fruit: Blackberries, blueberries and rasberries
Herbs: Basil, Dill, Lemon Balm, Oregano. Get some parmesan from Antico Mercante along with your basil to get your pesto on or chevre from Decimal Place for Basil Chevre spread.
Cheese: Tuma, Feta and Chevre from Decimal Place Farm and artisan cheeses from Antico Mercante.
Bread: We tried the Farmers Crusty last week from Bernard's Bakery, which served us well for tomato sandwiches and our trusty peanut butter jelly sandwiches. For a treat, try the challah and make french toast.

Farmers Market Book Club
Bound To Be Read Books' July book for the Farmers Market Book Club is Animal Vegetable Mircale by Barbara Kingsolver. Novelist Kingsolver recounts a year with her familly spent eating only home-grown food and local food. Buy the book at Bound to Be Read this month for 20% off and join the potluck to discuss it Sunday July 27th, 6PM at the store. 2008 East ATL BeerFest
The EAV Farmers Market was out in full force at the 2008 East Atlanta Beer Festival spreading the good word with strawberries from Riverview Farms and soft pretzels from Bernard's Bread Bakery . 
Accepting Food Stamps
The East Atlanta Village Farmers Market (EAVFM) is participating with a pilot program in Georgia for farmers markets to accept food stamps and offer outreach in 2008. This pilot program will provide access
to fresh local food for 4,400 food stamp recipients in the 30316 zip
code and expand the potential customer base for the farmers at the
market.
Rain Barrels
Village Hardware has rain barrels available now to catch the water while we can. White rain barrels as pictured are 65 gallons and cost $89.99. They come with screens, spigot and overflow valve. Black rain barrels with screw top lids and screens also come with an overflow valve and spiggot. These are slightly smaller at 60 gallons, fit into a tighter space and have and everyday price of $119.99. Finally, is the large rain reservoir that collects 275 gallons and is $245.99
New Location in EAV
The 2008 East Atlanta Village Farmers Market moves to Village Hardware in EAV right on Glenwood Ave. Why did we move? The new location offers much needed shade to the farmers, more parking and an opportunity to work collaboratively with the expanded garden center (look out for worm composting and rain water catchment demos!).
